Doctor Stephen Strange, MD, also known as Doctor Strange, is a fictional character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
Strange was a top New York neurosurgeon, who had his hands shattered in a car accident. He traveled to Kamar-Taj, Nepal in search of the Ancient One, who he thought could heal them. While there, he was taught to become a Master of the Mystic Arts. In his limited knowledge of their teaching and items, he defeated Kaecilius and Dormammu, becoming a protector of the New York Sanctum, with aide from Master Wong. He gained the moniker of Doctor Strange, although he originally meant it as Dr. Strange when introducing himself to strangers such as Kaecilius.
Strange was killed by Thanos when he collected all six Infinity Stones and used them to reduce the galaxy's population.
