Former Director and Agent Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Carter is a fictional character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She is played by Hayley Atwell.
Carter rose to prominence in the S.S.R., during World War II. She witnessed the birth of Captain America, and aided him in the fight against the Red Skull of Hydra. When Hydra was defeated, she continued on at S.S.R., but since the organization was created to fight against Hydra, it was eventually absorbed into the broader S.H.I.E.L.D., co-founded by none other than Agent Carter.
Her allies consisted of Rogers, Chester Phillips, Howard Stark, the Howling Commandos, and Edwin Jarvis.
