Captain America: Civil War is a 2016 film and the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Three. It was produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film, being a sequel to 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, was directed by Anthony & Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. It is the last in the Captain America trilogy, although the title character continued in the Avengers spin-off film series.

Elements of the films also inspired the TV series spin-off The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which itself led to the announcement of the Captain America series being revived both in 2021. The series has rekindled interest in continuing the Captain America film series, with the next sequel, Captain America: Brave New World, to be released in 2024.
