Marvel One-Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer, or simply, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer, is a 2011 direct-to-video short film, and the second in the Marvel One-Shots series. It was produced by Marvel Studios to be exclusive on the Blu-ray release of Captain America: The First Avenger, distributed by Paramount Home Media Distribution on October 25, 2011. It was directed by Leythum, from a screenplay by Eric Pearson.
Driving along the highway in the middle of the night, Coulson stops at a gas station. He goes inside trying to decide between two selections of donuts. In the meantime, two thugs hold up the cashier with their guns. After demanding the money, they ask who's car it is outside. Coulson then pops up, surprising them. He pretends to play along, while bringing up innocently that he has a gun of his own. He follows orders to slide it along the floor, which distracts one of them long enough for Coulson to knock his partner out before he finishes off the first guy. He then buys both donuts, and instructs the cashier to take the credit. Unfazed, he then goes back outside to fill his car up before he goes back on the road.
|Clark Gregg||Phil Coulson|
- This short is set between the time Coulson leaves Tony Stark in Iron Man 2 and the former finding Mjolnir in the post-credits of the aforementioned film.
- This and the first short (also released in 2011) were intended to showcase more of Phil Coulson, especially the former. The budget of the former took up 80% of the budget reserved for the two, leaving only room "for two guys talking" in The Consultant.
